Umi never disappoints! Amazing food! Service tonight was ok; it's been better. Smoked salmon sashimi and tuna sashimi are always amazing! Beef appetizer was delicious! We drive about an hour to eat at Umi. Best around!

Have been going here for over 20 years since the original founding but a bit disappointed lately with the temperature of the hot rolls. On Friday night around 7 pm they came out cold and not sure if the waitress forgot our table or the chef didn’t warm up the Soft shell crab and special scallop rolls enough. The dynamite shrimp appetizer is BOMB though and the vegetable tempura is mouth watering!! Still love this place and going back!!

After our fourth wonderful experience I realized this review was long overdue. Umi provides without a doubt some of the best sushi I have ever had. It is definitely me and my girlfriend's favorite place to get sushi in Terre Haute. I cannot recommend the calamari enough, it is absolutely incredible and the sauce that it comes with needs to be studied for levels of addictiveness. The raw fish is immaculate. You cannot go wrong with any of the sushi on the menu. The service is quick and receptive. They are literally available for every question or issue you may have with a smile on their face. We absolutely love the atmosphere here, it sets the perfect mood for date night or a night out with friends or family. 10/10, looking forward for coming here for many years to come. Thank you to Chuan and all of the other servers for exceeding our expectations and for making our date nights special!

We really enjoyed this place... we tried new things... In a beautiful atmosphere... My son and I shared different sushi rolls with a sashimi bowl. My mother got a salad and miso soup. Beautiful plates!! Oh my goodness the plating was delicious!! The Yuki roll was not to my taste. I do typically like Wasabi sauces... but this was WAY to Wasabi forward. We couldn't finish it... so if you don't like straight up wasabi... don't order this. The Wolfe roll was tasty. We liked it a lot. Very cream cheesy... a little heavy... with a sweet and sour vibe. It was yum... We had octopus umi because my son handt had it... as per norm..octopus is rubbery and weird, but he wanted to try it lol. Now the sashimi plate we got was beautiful and delicious!! So excited about that! Lol. My son also got this noodle dish with an egg that he enjoyed a lot. I'd love to go back and try more!! Thank you!

I have wanted to eat here since the 90’s and never had time till today :) !! I tried there 2 most expensive sushi dishes, the sushi flight, and the Happy Go Lucky. The presentation was excellent!! The waitress was friendly and cute!! The over all service was excellent, my only major complaints was the lights were a little to dim in the private booths. But the place had an overall cozy vibe that works. And they are doing that nonsense super tip garbage. A proper tip should be 15% period. A happy customer will tip good because there happy and should never be guilted in to it. Both dishes were satisfying. The price is a little high on both as they use Pollock and no truly exceptional dish or a dish of that price should use “pollock/ imitation crab”. Over all I give them 5 stars and recommend trying the sushi Flight!! And again the dish presentation was worthy!!

Beautiful decor, top-notch service and great food with SO many options!

We always love Umi Grill. I came here with my family last monday. We didn’t have reservations but they were able to accommodate the 6 of us. Our server, Noah, was very friendly and accommodating. He interracted with us and made us feel at home. Their food is outstanding. If you ever visit Umi, try their Volcano roll, diva roll (personal fave), spicy tako, and dr. singh special. It’s amazing! We will be back!! Price Range: - We averaged 60-70 per person but we ordered a lot too. And their Japanese Honey Cake is amazing!!!! Update APRIL 18, 2024: I have never been so aggravated in my life. I usually love this spot but their new server just ruined it for me. My family and I are always at Umi because it’s our favorite restaurant. We always get along with the servers and never ever encountered any kind of problem with their service or food until this Thursday night. We were assigned to a server we’ve never seen before (short haired, oriental woman). I was with my husband and our baby. She first messed up my drink. She’s shuffling our plates without our permission and we’re so confused to why she’s moving it around because we usually do that ourselves since we’re very helpful people to our servers as I am a server myself. But she’s too hyper, moving way too fast for us, and poured my husband’s drink in a mug when he didn’t want a mug. I ordered spicy salmon and got something else. I let her know NICELY that I ordered spicy salmon and not whatever she served me. She argued with me that I was wrong and that this is what I ordered. I asked her if she still have the slip that I filled out since that would show if I marked the wrong box (if I did, I would pay for it no problem). She said she already threw it away. So I said that it’s not what I ordered and I’m not eating it. She was rolling her eyes the WHOLE time! She handed us our bill with the spicy scallop still on there when I didn’t even EAT it and I didn’t order it! I asked for a manager, and nobody came to see us. the server finally came back and removed the item on the bill. I don’t know why it had to be a fight! If I were to make a mistake at my job, we correct it right away. I have never been so aggravated ever! We will still come back, but not to be served by that server ever again. Update APRIL 28, 2024: I have no idea why I can’t figure out how to respond to the owner’s response, but…here it is. It’s ALWAYS a lovely time whenever we visit Umi. And I mean ALWAYS! We love being there! That’s where we splurge, where we love spending our hard earned money because it’s ALWAYS so so so WORTH IT! Like I said, we ALWAYS get along with our servers! ALWAYS. As servers ourselves, we tip AMAZINGLY and try to be helpful to them ourselves. Owner, thank you for responding. It meant a lot. I wanted to be heard because I was so frustrated! We hardly eat out due to having a baby recently and when we do, I usually always choose UMI. This is my spot. This is the only thing I looked forward to after having a baby so I can have the tuna cubes, ceviche, and ofc sushi! So just imagine the frustration of looking forward to a lovely evening only for it to be ruined by the service. I did asked for a manager the night of the incident and like I said, nobody showed up and that frustrated me even more. Now that I’ve been heard, the ratings are back to what it should be AND WE CANNOT WAIT TO BE BACK! Thank you.

My husband and I came here for his birthday. The food was absolutely delicious. Every single thing we ordered was honestly so good. The atmosphere is fantastic. We sat in a booth that felt very private. Our server was one of the best servers we’ve ever had. His name was Courtland. He was able to give us several recommendations on what to order and it did not disappoint. We will definitely be returning. Highly recommend.
